Introduction

The more time we spend in opposition, the more time, energy, and money we lose in conflict, and the less we have for positive, healthy, creative living. The more we focus on positive solutions, the more options and possibilities appear for mindful, healthy living in a more beautiful world.

All of this depends on how we focus our attention, especially in our relationship to everything else in the world. Is that relationship ambivalent, positive, or somewhere in between?

This isn’t a rejection of opposition, nor is it a suggestion that we should never protest forces of unpleasantness. There are times when we must resist or avoid opposing forces. But this is a call to place greater focus on living in positive relationship with the world around us. That is the only way the world becomes a more pleasant, beautiful place for all of us.

And it depends largely on our willingness to learn, understand, and educate ourselves and those around us. Contrary to what most people think, the problems of the world don’t arise because of how someone, some group, or some country behaves toward us. Most problems persist because we do not understand, lack the ability, or do not want to face and learn how to manage difficult circumstances in a friendly, positive manner.
